There’s a new Kickstarter campaign from Whiskeyjack Toys, a new player in the 1:18 action figure space. Their first campaign introduces us to the Legends of the Hidden Force, where in a hidden mystical city beset by betrayers, conquerors, and terrors, 3 ninja factions vie for the fate of a power enhancing flower. This is it! Your entry into the mystical city of Horai. Our hero, Shinobi and two of his closest friends, Torashi and Kusa, defend the villagers from the brute force of Obake’s agents, Furi and Raiju – as well as his backbone ninja assassins, the Kyonshii. Take the set of 6 for $120, or pick any individual for $22 each

Shinobi (Lone Ninja), Rogue, Ex-Sabo Clan. $22 each – Shinobi is the one smart enough, brave enough, or curious enough to start pulling at the threads of Horai. Shinobi is a seeker of the truth, and dedicated to improving the lives of those around him. Includes: 2x Ninjato, Backpack, Handle.

Furi (Monkey Ghost), Henchman, Aka Clan. $22 each – The unpredictable and devious Furi is closer to being a pet of Obake’s than one of his retinue. Tread very lightly around Furi. Very lightly. Includes: Kusarigama. 

Kusa (Grass). Tai Chi Ninja, Sabo Clan. $22 each – The calm and centered Kusa keeps Shinobi and the group from getting into too much trouble. His wisdom and clarity are often the shining light the group needs. Includes: Scythe. 

Raiju (Lightning Dog Spirit), Kyonshii Trainer, Aka Clan. $22 each – Angry and full of rage, Raiju is desperate to prove himself to Obake, which could make him the most dangerous foe to our heroes. Includes: Throwing Dart.

Torashi (Tiger-like). Tiger Technique Ninja, Seichi Clan. $22 – The fierce and loyal confidant of Shinobi’s is a (Tiger) Force to be reckoned with. Includes: 2x Tekko-Kagi.

Kyonshii (Zombie Ghost). Zombie Horde, Aka Clan. $22 each – Obakes loyal forces, the Kyonshii are enforcers of Obakes policy and law in the city streets at night. Includes: 2x Kama.

One of the key reasons Horai has stayed hidden for so long, beyond the perpetual misty fog cover, is the dense forest surrounding the city is teeming with these dark horrors – somewhere between a zombie and a vampire – just itching to eliminate anyone who dares enter their domain. 

Series 4: Champions of the Hidden Force

Having returned from military service in the western war, The Champions are revered by many in Horai for their efforts to protect Japan and their way of life. Somewhat reclusive, Shinobi shares their disdain for the governance of Horai, and seeks to find a “better way.”

Daito, Unlocked at $200,000

Daito (Sword). Master Swordsman, Sabo Clan. $22 each – The calm and centered master swordsman, Daito is wise and philosophical beyond his years. Includes: Katana, Backpack, Sai.

Knock-Out, Unlocked at $205,000

Knock-Out. Cyborg, Sabo Clan. $22 each.  Injured in the western war, his brethren never speak of how he came home boasting cybernetic enhancements. Includes: Mechanical Backpack, Energy Axe, Energy Mace, Energy Ninjato.

Kudan (Bull-Man). Enforcer, Aka Clan. $22 each – Angry, resilient, unstoppable. Cares deeply for his brethren, but rarely for anyone else. Kudan makes up in heart what he lacks in smart.  Includes: Bull Club.

Badger. Tactician, Seichi Clan. $22 each – Brilliant war time tactician and strategist. The Badger lead the Champions to many victories during the Western War. Includes: Crescent Spear, Conical Hat, Soft Goods Tabard with Belt.

Jiyu: The Free. $22 each – An assembly of ninja that have left the three clans, and Horai proper, to attempt to enrich the lives of the surrounding communities. They follow no master, so they get easily caught up in tangents and side missions. Includes: Katana, Backpack, Throwing Star, Bo Staff.

Champions of the Hidden Force – Unlocked at $225,000

All of Series 4 at a reduced package price of $120 for the set. The gray garbed legions of Jiyu, and the 5 legendary Ninjas that were once Commandos.  

Series 4 Adventure Pack: Champion’s Training Day. Unlocked at $235,000

Develop and hone the ninja skills of your ideal combatant. Practice strikes against the training dummy, Marksmanship with the bow and arrows, or kata forms in the dojo. 

Series 4 Kickstarter Exclusive Army Builder 3 pack: The Jiyu. Unlocked at $245,000 

The (intentionally) master-less assembly of like minded ninja that have left Horai with the intent of helping those outside the walled city.

Overall, it’s an ambitious project with a lot of possible offerings. It’s great to see more 1:18 figures coming to the market place, especially one as refreshing as this. Plus, the head nod to the G.I.Joe Ninja Commandos is a nice touch. 😉
