Starting this past Sunday, eBay seller ssushop posted a large collection of unproduced colorways and prototype G.I.Joe offerings spanning the 00’s. I’ve been following the seller’s listings all week long and after having reached out to obtain permission to share the listing images here, the seller in turn reached out to me to note that the 3rd and final grouping of prototypes and paint samples were being listed today. This last batch will surely excite proto collectors out there, as there’s Walmart offerings, Python Patrol and more.
I’ve gathered the latest batch grouped them by assortment for your viewing pleasure. Check it out –
2003 Walmart Exclusive G.I.Joe and Cobra Sky Patrol Series

If you’re unfamiliar with this particular unreleased series, Forgotten Figures sums it up perfectly, check it out –
In 2003, Wal Mart approached Hasbro for an exclusive run of G.I. Joe Figures. Originally, the 6 figure series was going to be based on Sky Patrol and include vintage style G.I. Joe molds. The figures were planned as three Joes and three Cobras: Snake Eyes, Duke, Low Light, Storm Shadow, Hiss Driver (possibly as Rip It) and Alley Viper. However, the parachutes could not pass a safety test and Wal Mart scrapped these figures. They were replaced with an 6 figure set of new sculpt molds where a desert Joe was paired with an urban Camo Cobra.
The assortment of figures available here include Alley Viper, Duke in 2 colorways – with Brown hair and Blonde hair, Low Light, Storm Shadow in two colorways – Lighter and Darker blue and the H.I.S.S. Tank Driver (Rip It) in two colorways – also in Lighter and Darker blue. The only one missing from the grouping is Snake Eyes.
These unreleased Walmart exclusive figures pop up every now and again and always seem to slip through my finger tips (mostly because I’m cheap, lol).

Ah, mail away offerings. Seems like forever ago, doesn’t it? Well, you can relive the adventure as an Unmasked Storm Shadow paint sample is up for grabs.
There you have it, folks. Sharing these auctions with you this week has been quite the trip down memory lane for me. Hard to believe that it’s been almost 20 years since most of these pieces were released. Yikes!
ICYMI, here are links to the (2) auction assortments shared earlier –
I won one of the figures in the earlier assortments, the unreleased Valor vs. Venom Beachhead.

Aw, man, these auctions left me speechless. On the one hand, I now know that my unreleased Rip It that has been sitting on a box for about fifteen years is worth something. On the other, today’s prices give one quite a scare. I do not remember ever paying more than 20 € for vintage (Cobra) figures back in the early 2000’s. And now these same figures are worth over a hundred.
I probably did not pick a favourable time to purchase some figures and make a small shelf display. 👻

I was having a similar conversation with a pair of gents on Twitter. The market is absolutely insane.
