My reviews of the B2FIVE VOTOMS wave 1 assortment from Beaver LTD continues with a look at the first of two expansion packs, the SCOPEDOG RED SHOULDER CUSTOM ATM-09-RSC pack!
To give you a bit of context, you can check out VOTOMS: The Last Red Shoulder linked below –
This set is much more than just an expansion pack, as it relates to a key plot of the anime. The Red Shoulder Battalion was part of the Gilgamesh Confederation’s Elite Forces. They were nicknamed “Bloodsuckers” and were piloted by highly trained soldiers infamous for their battlefield tactics (think Cobra’s Plague).
Thanks to MAHQ for the following intel: The Red Shoulder Battalion is easily recognized by their heavily armored custom ATM-09-ST Scopedog units, painted with a red shoulder. Following the end of the war, former Red Shoulder Chirico Cuvie hides from the Secret Society and the corrupt Woodo City police force on planet Melkia. To wage battle against the police, Chirico’s friend Vanilla Vartla outfits a Battling arena Scopedog with heavy weapons to create a unit similar to those used by the now-disbanded Red Shoulders. These armaments include a standard heavy machine gun, arm punch, Gatling gun, solid shooter, rocket launcher and SSM launcher. Although the custom unit strikes fear in Chirico’s enemies, Vanilla did get one detail wrong – Red Shoulder units are painted red on the right shoulder, not the left.

Technical and Historical Notes

In the last six years of the Hundred Years War, no name was feared more than the Gilgamesh Confederation’s elite Red Shoulder Battalion. Nicknamed the “Bloodsucker Battalion,” these specially-trained soldiers are infamous for their savagery on the battlefield – no distinction is made between enemy, civilian and even ally. The Red Shoulder Battalion is easily recognized by their heavily armored custom ATM-09-ST Scopedog units, painted with a red shoulder.
As with other VOTOMS offerings in the wave, the RSC Expansion Pack features a window box that proudly displays not only the Red Shoulder, but Vanilla Vartla as well. The set also comes with the same warning that came in the BRUTISHDOG set, advising against bending your figures too far back, as it can damage their uniform.
The clam shell is a dual level; including the weaponry for the SCOPEDOG in one tray and an absolute arsenal of weaponry for your figures in a secondary tray.
The B2FIVE team has done an outstanding job keeping true to the VOTOMS anime, as the RED SHOULDER CUSTOM Expansion Pack includes all the items necessary to make your SCOPEDOG look just like it did on screen. These armaments include a:
- Standard Heavy Machine Gun
- Arm punch
- Gatling gun
- Solid shooter
- Rocket launcher
- SSM launcher
The Red Shoulder really pops on the SCOPEDOG and looks imposing without all of the extra weaponry…but where’s the fun in that?!
The ATM-09-RSC set turns your SCOPEDOG in to an absolute BEAST! I love the attention to detail that Beaver pays when it comes to their B2FIVE offerings and needless to say, their VOTOM series has been anything but lackluster.
All of the weaponry mounts perfectly and looks absolutely BAD ASS! I haven’t been able to set this piece down since arming it!
In case you were wondering, YES, the set looks just as brilliant mounted on the BRUTISHDOG ATM-09-GC!
What’s really neat about both expansion packs is the fact that they include figures, too! This particular set includes Vanilla Vartla and a Security Soldier. I’m so excited to have Vanilla has a first wave offering as he’s one of my favorite characters from the story!
As noted earlier, not only does the set come with the weaponry needed to modify your GHOSTDOG, but it also comes with enough weapons to arm your Vanilla Security Soldier figures nicely! Weapons aside, let’s take a look at each offering.
Vanilla Vartla looks like he just jumped right off of the screen and on to my desk. I again proclaim that Beaver did an outstanding job with these B2FIVE VOTOMS offerings. I want all of the characters now!
As with Vanilla, the same can be said about the Security Soldier. These B2FIVE offerings are chock full of articulation, so you’ll have no problem posing, playing and pitting your Soldier against Vanilla.
Folks, the bottom line is this – You’d be doing yourself a disservice if you picked up a GHOSTDOG and didn’t upgrade it with the RED SHOULDER CUSTOM ATM-09-RSC Expansion Pack. For me, it’s an absolute MUST HAVE…but then again, so is this entire line so far!

Stay tuned as next up, I’ll be taking a look at the 2nd Expansion Pack, the ROUND MOVER ATC-BR1-S Expansion Pack!
